London, Nov 23. Mrs. Mapp, the famous bonesetter, was
lately at the Theatre-Royal in Lincoln's-Inn Fields, and saw
the comedy call'd the Wife's Relief; or the Husband's Cure,
with the pantomime entertainment, call'd the Worm Doctor, in
which was introduc'd, Harlequin Female Bone-Setter: There
was in the stage-box with her, Dr. Taylor, the oculist: in
performing the entertainment, Mrs. Lovepuppy brought in
under her arm, wrapt up, a dog to be couch'd, which Dr.
Pestle, (the chief performer in the entertainment) handled,
and turn'd up his eyes, to see if he had a gutta serena;
upon which the whole house fell a clapping and hollowing,
which held some minutes; and Mrs. Mapp shook her hands and
pointed at Dr. Taylor, which greatly added to the mirth;
upon which the doctor retired a little, but return'd, and
staid out the performance with a great deal of good humour;
and when Harlequin Female Bone-Setter appear'd and perform'd
his operations, the house was again in a perfect uproar,
hollowing and clapping; but Mrs. Mapp laugh'd with the rest,
and set out the whole scene, and seem'd highly delighted.
And the following was sung upon the stage.
  You surgeons of London you puzzle your pates,
  To ride in your coaches, and purchase estates;
  Give over, for shame, for your pride has a fall,
  And the doctress of Epsom, has out-done you all.
  Derry down, &c.

EPIGRAM.
While Mapp to th'actors shew'd a kind regard,
In one side Taylor sat, on t'other Ward:
When their mock persons of the drama came,
Both Ward, and Taylor, thought it hurt their fame;
Wonder'd how Mapp cou'd in good humour be, -----
Zounds, crys the manly dame, it hurts not me;
Quacks without art, may either blind or kill,
But demonstration shews that mine is skill.
